Women Building Their Careers at Blattner

During Women in Construction Week, we’re highlighting two members of our Supply Chain team whose career journeys show how curiosity, consistency and hands-on learning can build a fulfilling career for women in renewable energy construction.

Parallel Journeys, Shared Principles

Morgan Horn and Alyssa Redd are Senior Site Inventory Specialists at Blattner. In utility-scale solar, Site Inventory Specialists keep projects moving by ensuring the right materials are in the right places at the right times. Both women began their careers outside of the construction industry but quickly grew into pivotal roles at Blattner by mastering fundamentals, earning trust and staying open to learning.

Morgan’s Career Path from Finance to the Field

BLT6935_0356-EAfter earning her finance degree from the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh and completing an accounting internship in manufacturing, Morgan was working as a product specialist in the gas industry when she discovered Blattner through a referral. She found that the hands-on field environment and company values better matched what she was looking for in a career.

She started in a role similar to today’s Site Inventory Specialist: escorting trucks, counting materials, scanning panels and building out stage yards. Practical learning came naturally to her. “I would physically put the parts together myself to understand and remember those different processes,” she said.

She began creating efficient, accurate and user-friendly material and inventory tracking systems that the onsite trades could depend on. “Being organized, timely and focused on my job was critical,” she said.

As her knowledge grew, so did her responsibilities and opportunities to mentor others. “I tell my teammates, when you are consistent, you become reliable, and when you are reliable, your coworkers will put trust in you,” she said. “Hard work pays off. If you do your research and learn as much as you can so you know what you are talking about, respect from others will come.”

Her career advice for other women in construction is simple. “Knowledge is power. Always be willing to learn.”

Alyssa’s Career Path from Summer Job to Solar Leader

Alyssa Redd cropped 3Alyssa has always approached things with a student mindset, ready to learn and grow as an individual. She was pursuing a degree in Learning & Technology at Texas A&M when her father, an Assistant Superintendent Trainer at Blattner, recommended that she consider the company for a summer job.

“Once I started working for Blattner, I saw so much potential that I decided to accelerate my plans and graduate early so I could advance my career here,” she said.

She had started on a solar install team in Texas, supporting photovoltaic panel work before moving to a torque tube crew, which was a decisive point in her growth.

“My Foreman created a great teaching environment for me so that I could grow in my role,” she shared. She soon began teaching others, then transitioned into a receiving role – inspecting materials, tracking inventory, conducting cycle counts and managing stage yards with the trades.

Field experience sharpened her focus on accuracy, placement and cross-trade coordination. “Communication and accuracy matter,” she said, “We have to make sure our work is on point to set up the people that are coming to work behind us.”

Alyssa leads with adaptability and collaboration. “There may be bumps in the road, but if we work together, we will get the job done. I value my ability to be flexible and I’m proud to be a woman in construction. Every day comes with new challenges and new ways to learn and grow.”

Women Shaping Renewable Energy

Morgan and Alyssa are two of the many women at Blattner defining how renewable energy is built. They bring discipline, communication and problem-solving to high-impact field roles.

If you’re looking for a hands-on, growth-focused career where your work powers progress, there’s a place for you here.
