Building Careers That Power Our Projects

Blattner is a place to gain hands-on experience, take on new challenges and explore where your skills can lead. For Careers in Construction Month, we’re highlighting employees whose talent, curiosity and dedication are representative of the thousands of team members across our projects. Blattner offers possibilities at every stage of a career.

Skills and growth

Rafael Barrientos, an Install Apprentice I, starts his week early and eager. “I don’t even want to miss a day,” he says. With a background in traffic control, concrete and solar, Rafael found a new direction at Blattner. “Being an apprentice here, there’s a lot of opportunity to grow. I’m working toward becoming a journeyman, and I learn something new every day.”

Rafael’s drive reflects the energy of more than 500 apprentices and 125 interns who joined Blattner projects in the first half of 2025.

BLT6909_0859-EFor Jennifer Martinek, a Senior Site Inventory Specialist, construction was a leap into the unknown. She came from a background in nutrition and dietetics. “Learning construction was brand new for me,” she says. “I love that it’s not the same thing every day.”

Jennifer has taken on challenges that expanded her skill set in ways she never imagined, earning telehandler and skid steer certifications. Even unexpected career paths can lead to meaningful growth and hands-on experience.

Leadership and impact

BLT6909_1523-EJherson “J.T.” Torres, Installation Superintendent, is a clear example of career momentum. He began in civil work, transitioned to installation and then moved into leadership. Each step gave him a broader view of what it takes to deliver a project and how to guide others.

“One thing that I enjoy most about my job is seeing people that I work with moving into new positions,” J.T. says. His experience illustrates the potential for advancement, with more than 500 employees promoted this year so far.

BLT6909_0601-EThat momentum often leads into project leadership, where technical knowledge meets people skills. For Anthony Marquez, Project Manager, the most rewarding part goes beyond delivering a successful project — it’s also building the team that makes it happen. “What I really love is motivating people, especially those stepping into new roles with a desire to learn. When all those different personalities and disciplines come together and gel, that’s the best part.”

Culture and Support

The people at Blattner and the culture they create are what makes careers at Blattner meaningful. Our people take the time to teach and learn from one another, helping each other navigate the work and opportunities along the way.

BLT6909_0945-EClark Packard, Site Manager, reflects on this culture: “I came in as a Field Engineer and worked my way through. There have been so many people before me that have set that path and shown how much growth there is. I’ve had some excellent mentors who have really helped me through my journey.” That spirit of collaboration, shared knowledge and guidance strengthens teams and drives successful projects.

Whether starting as an apprentice, shifting from another field or moving into leadership, there is opportunity to build a career at Blattner. Growth, hands-on experience and support from others can open new paths at every stage. Come as you are. Build what's next.
